Because it appears Square Enix has run out of places to port to, Final Fantasy III will be coming to Steam “soon” according to a recent press release.

Square Enix promises new visuals for the Job Mastery Cards, quicker browsing through the bestiary, new and improved 3D visuals and story sequences, achievements, and even Steam Trading Cards. The Steam page for Final Fantasy III also promises that the graphics for the game will be upgraded for the PC.

Final Fantasy III is the third game in the Final Fantasy series. It is the story of four orphaned children setting out to restore the four crystals of light in order to restore harmony to the world. Although the original game was released in Japan way back in 1990, the game first came to American shores on the DS in 2006, with a PAL release following in 2007. In the coming years, it has come out for the Wii Virtual Console (Japan), iOS, Android, PlayStation Network, Ouya, and Windows Phones.

For more information on the game, check out the official Final Fantasy III website.

He spends most of his gaming time with either story-based or strategy games. As an aspiring novelist, he blames games like Earthbound and Final Fantasy Tactics for getting him started. When not gaming, he can be found reading, obsessing over something on Twitter, or researching strange folklore.
