We’ll get to the numbers for the first week of 2014 later, but let’s focus on the final week of 2013 in the Media Create charts first.

First things first, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds lead the week with 224,143 units sold. While it did help in getting the 3DS over 200,000 that week, it wasn’t enough to get the console above the 5 million mark for a second straight year.

However, things are still pretty good for the 3DS as the handheld had the fourth best year in the region over the past ten years. While it’s not quite clear where the year ranks overall, I guess it’s pretty high on the list.

Also releasing during the week was Final Fantasy X, both in the individual Vita package and the X/X-2 Vita and PS3 package. The game gave a nice boost to both the Vita and the PS3.

One final bit of news: this is the last week that the Wii will be listed in the Media Create charts. While this is not surprising since the system is no longer being produced in the region, it’s still sad as it was doing better than a certain cellar-dwelling 7th generation console. The Wii leaves the charts with 12,710,918 sold in its lifetime.

And we begin the new year almost the same way we left then old one. The 3DS is dominant 15 titles making the Top 20. Everyone but the Xbox 360 is in the tens of thousands thanks to a lingering holiday bump. And Final Fantasy X/X-2 is keeping Sony’s consoles relevant this week.

One thing to note is the 3DS lifetime totals. The handheld is a little over 160,000 unit away from hitting the 15 million mark. With a repeat performance, it will eclipse the mark. However, with the holidays ending and the bump starting to level off, it might just miss the mark.
