You know, last time the Vita won a week on the Media Create charts, I posted an image of the Vita (as Muhammed Ali) knocking out the 3DS (as Sonny Liston). The image was, to say the least, met with plenty of backlash. A number of people thought that we were jumping the gun and declaring the 3DS dead. Well, allow me to explain.
The purpose of the image was to celebrate a surprising victory by the Vita. Sure, it was only one week, but it was unexpected, like Ali’s one-punch knockout of Liston during their second fight. It was never meant as a slight to the 3DS at all. We just want to see both systems succeed so that we can see a good ol’ fashion tech melee ensue.
With that said…
Wow! Just… Wow! Who knew that God Eater 2 could sell the Vita like that? While not the only reason that the Vita was the big console winner, it did play a part. The other big reason: Vita TV. Here’s a breakdown of the normal Vita vs. Vita TV sales figures.
PS Vita | 46.350 |
PS Vita TV | 42.172 |
As you can see, the Vita TV, a non-portable version of Sony’s handheld, did pretty well on its own. The new micro-console, which retails for ¥9,954 (roughly $100 USD) as well as ¥14,994 ($150 USD) with a DualShock 3 controller, was able to get third place on its own behind the 3DS LL (47,852) and the portable Vita (46,350). Hopefully, we’ll be able to see this iteration come West at some point. For now, the micro-console is slated for release in Asian markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, and China.
As for God Eater 2, there doesn’t seem to be any movement on getting this game localized at the moment. That could change, since the first game–or should I say an upgraded version of the first game, Gods Eater Burst–made it to the West. If not, importing can be a good option, especially with the region-free Vita and PSP.
Over on the 3DS side of things, it wasn’t a bad week at all. Despite the 3DS console line losing to the Vita line, the 3DS LL was still the top selling individual console this week. Both Monster Hunter 4 and Pokemon X & Y continue their march to 3 million with Pokemon probably in better position to reach the mark first. And to top it off, the system still holds the highest number of spots on the list. Here’s a couple of the new games that you importers may want to know about:
—Daigasso! Band Brothers P is the latest game in the Nintendo published and developed music game series. Known in the West as Jam with the Band, both of the DS games that were developed released in Japanese and European regions. So far, North America has missed out on games in this series. Is it possible that we could get this game at some point for both Europe and North America? Perhaps, but the fans will need to let NOA know that we want it.
—Medabots Dual: Kabuto ver./Kuwagata ver. is the latest game in the Medabots/Medarot franchise. Unlike earlier games which were RPGs, this is an action game. While the franchise has seen releases in Western regions, the localizations have trailed off, leading fans to petition Natsume to release the latest Medabots games in the West.
