IT’S ALIVE!
Well, maybe that’s too quick of a reaction. After all, it’s just one week of the Media Create charts. To top it off, there’s only one game on the list for the Wii U, that being Wii Party U.
Just to remind people, this is just the number of physical copies sold for the game. On Famitsu, which also tracks digital sales, Wii Party U’s units sold was doubled by digital offerings, bringing the total up towards 80,000 for the first week. However, while this is goods news at the moment, it seems that the three-headed Wii series monster of Party U, Fit U (which sold over 5,000 in digital bundle copies), and Sports Club doesn’t seem to be the long-term answer.
What else do we have?
Sonic Lost WorldWii Fit UWii Party UWii Sports Club- Super Mario 3D World (11/21)
- Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games (12/05)
- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (February 2014)
- Mario Kart 8 (April 2014)
- Bayonetta 2 (2014)
- X (2014)
- Super Smash Bros. (2014)
Mario! That’ll do it…
Except that the last two 3D Mario console games barely averaged over a million per game. Super Mario 3D Land, which Super Mario 3D World’s gameplay is based on, has sold around 1.9 million so far in Japan. Super Mario 3D World may stay on for a while, but it might not move enough systems on its own.
As for the other floundering system, the Vita is holding steady, even gaining a few thousand units. Its top game this week was Gundam Breaker, with 33,775 units. Also in the Top 10 is Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, a remake of the first Neptunia game for the PS Vita, selling 31,811 units. Also of note, Danganronpa 1&2 Reload, a remake of the first two Danganronpa games, has topped 100,000 units sold.
Meanwhile, on the 3DS side of things, Monster Hunter 4 and Pokémon X & Y continue their march toward 3,000,000 physical units sold. Right now, Monster Hunter 4 is in the lead by about 140,000 units. However, Pokémon X & Y seem to be gaining ground quite quickly. This will be close.
Little Battlers eXperience: Wars is the highest-ranking new game in this week’s Media Create charts, with just over 50,000 physical units. The series has no localization history and might continue on this route, considering Level-5’s localization history, in which case the best way to get this game would be to import it, along with a Japanese 3DS.
Tears to Tiara II: Haou no Matsuei is a PS3 sequel to the original Tears to Tiara, which came out on Windows and saw re-releases and new chapters on the PSP and PS3. The series is a tactical fantasy romance RPG that spawned an anime that has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks for North America. If you want to take a chance on it, you will more than likely have to import the game. The good news is that the PS3 is region-free.
