Square Enix held a special “FFXI, DQX, FFXIV Anniversary Stage” event Saturday at the 2013 Tokyo Game Show. At this event, they announced a special set of crossovers between Final Fantasy XI, Dragon Quest X and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Here’s how the crossovers break down. A Final Fantasy XIV Spriggan will join the iconic Dragon Quest Slime in Final Fantasy XI; Shantotto from Final Fantasy XI and a Moogle from Final Fantasy XIV will make an appearance in Dragon Quest X; and a giant Shantotto from Final Fantasy XI—as well as the Golem, Goldman and Stoneman from Dragon Quest X—will show up to fight with and against players in Final Fantasy XIV.
The “Anniversary” in the title of the event refers to Final Fantasy XI completing its 11th year, Dragon Quest X just finishing its first, and Final Fantasy XIV‘s recent relaunch last month. As noted by Final Fantasy XI producer Akihiko Matsui, this is the first time a large-scale crossover has been attempted between the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. The crossovers are set to be implemented at the end of the year. There was no indication of whether these crossovers would be available in Western regions; however, Dragon Quest X‘s absence in the West makes that scenario rather unlikely at this time.
