It seems that Tetsuya Nomura is talking about Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III once again. This time, he’s decided to discuss the characters in both of these games in an interview with Finaland.
On Kingdom Hearts III, the possibility of co-op in the game was mentioned. While Nomura stated that the game was focused on Sora as the main playable character, he said that he’ll still consider the idea of co-op. Since Kingdom Hearts III is “the last chapter of the Kingdom Hearts main numbering title series,” Nomura pointed out that many fans would want to play as their favorite character. The last Kingdom Hearts title to feature co-op multiplayer was Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days on the DS, so it’s not like it’s a foreign concept to the franchise.
As for what worlds were going to appear in the next Kingdom Hearts game, Nomura said that “it would be great” if characters and places from Marvel and Lucasfilm franchises would appear in this game. However, since Disney supposedly has “lots of rules and restrictions” on who actually shows up in the game, Nomura said he couldn’t put in everyone that fans wanted. He did promise that we’d get some “surprises.” As long as one of those “surprises” includes a Toy Story world, I’m totally fine.
Moving on to Final Fantasy XV, one of the more interesting additions to the game is the concept of vehicles. This includes a car, which Nomura states is “the vehicle you’ll probably use the most in the game” as well as Magitek armor which “you can actually control and ride.” He also stated that there wouldn’t be a motorbike because you’ll be with your party for the entire game, and five guys can’t really fit on a single motorcycle that well.
The subject of dual audio was also brought up. The main problem with that would be the kind of disc used and how much space it has. Nomura explained that “the two main reasons are the disc space and also the lip sync, because if we’re making the game, with the characters speaking in English but with the voices in Japanese, the lip sync would not match.” That said, if you really want that option to be in the game, he suggested letting Square Enix know.
Finally, he stated that Sora and Noctis are his favorite characters out of all the characters he’s created, going so far as to call them his sons. “I’ve been together with [Sora] for more than ten years now, this is the first time I’ve been with a character for such a long time,” Nomura explained. “So he’s very very special for me and he’s been adopted by Disney also, so he’s a very very good boy. More like a good son actually.”
Final Fantasy XV protagonist Noctis, on the other hand, is the exact opposite of Sora. Literally. His full name, Noctis Caelum, is latin for ‘night sky’. “There is a reason why I named these characters as opposites,” Nomura explains. “Noctis is kind of like my latest boy, or latest son and I expect him to be more clever than Cloud.”
