Where have all the sales gone?!

Well, if you compare the Media Create numbers from last week to this week, you’ll notice a drop pretty much across the board in sales. If you look at the hardware side of things, all consoles saw a decrease. The hardest hit was the Vita in total numbers (about 12,000) and percentage (39%). However, this seems to be stemming from a lack of supply at some stores rather than apathy for the handheld. Also taking big losses are the 3DS (about 10,000) and the Wii U (8,000). All total, console sales are down almost 40,000 from last week.

On the software side of things, all games except two have lost sales. Luigi’s Mansion is still on top but is down about a third. Animal Crossing easily made the 3,000,000 mark but dropped below the 50,000 mark for the first time. Dragon Quest X fell under 10,000. Last week’s number 2, Fate/Extra CCC, had an 85% drop from last week. And this week’s only new game, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for the PS3, didn’t even sell 10,000 copies.

Media CreateSo, what saw an increase? Two games. The first is Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Super Deluxe Edition, a rhythm game created by Namco Bandai. The second game, also from Namco Bandai, is Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission, a card-based fighting game on the Nintendo 3DS. Although I have no doubt that Taiko no Tatsujin will stay in Japan, there is a possibility that we might see Dragon Ball Heroes over in the West, given the franchise’s popularity. However, I won’t be surprised if this game also stays in Japan.
