AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is part of a series where Operation Rainfall will be briefly covering publishers that specialize in localizing niche-market titles into America. We will focus on one publisher per week for several weeks. Fans of niche gaming should pay close attention to each of these publishers, and the best way to support them is by purchasing the titles they localize. As the saying goes, “put your money where your mouth is”… Without further ado, we present this week’s publisher:

Rising Star Games

Rising Star Games may not be a household name to U.S. gamers yet, but if their success in Europe is anything to measure by, then we only have good things to look forward to, and Rising Star Games (RSG) is a publisher you definitely need to keep on your radar.

Rising Star Games was founded in the UK in 2004 and has published nearly 100 titles across all current-generation consoles to date. Their portfolio includes both popular existing franchises and brand new properties such as Little King’s Story, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, No More Heroes, Fragile Dreams, and the Harvest Moon series.

In January 2012 Rising Star Games opened a US branch in California, which will publish titles for the American and Canadian markets, bringing decades of combined experience, unique knowledge and a genuine passion for interactive entertainment to a larger Western audience. RSG announced on April 5th that they have selected Aksys Games as the exclusive distributor of RSG-published titles in America.

Their first title to be published in America is the Xbox 360 shooter Akai Katana (developed by Cave), which will launch on May 15th. With an excellent taste in games and a superb track record of releases in Europe, we are definitely excited to see what the future holds for Rising Star Games.

If you live in America, you can support them today by purchasing Akai Katana for Xbox 360, and Europeans have a long list of games that have been published by RSG on their official website: http://www.risingstargames.com/games.aspx
