Precursor Games Community Involvement: The Order of the Unseen

Video game companies have a tendency to “reach out” to their fans and ask for their input, but how often are your ideas actually implemented in the game? In our discussion with Denis Dyack, Shawn Jackson, and Aaron Unger of Precursor Games it became clear that they are passionate about feedback and incorporating the ideas from their fans in Shadow of the Eternals. The Order of the Unseen is one such way that they are reaching out, and here they discuss some of their possible future plans with community involvement.

Denis Dyack, Chief Creative Officer for Shadow of the Eternals, had this to say about the game’s community and the support they’ve been giving:

At the end of the day though for the sanity events system, we want to cover storyline, gameplay, we want to break the fourth wall, we want to take advantage of art, exploration, technology, and audio. We want to cover the gambit. The first time we did it, it was so new and we were kind of really on the bleeding edge of what can we get away with? Now with all this new technology and social media there’s so much we can do that we’re really excited about exploring. I know some of you guys have been to the forums to see the Order. The first couple weeks had hundreds of sanity events, awesome contributions to the elder gods; great short stories. So as an example, what’s to say when you’re reading a book there’s one of the short stories submitted through the Order? That’s the stuff we’re planning on doing.

What we’re most excited about is the ability and the opportunity created by digital distribution where we can actually work with the community to create content. I have never seen a community so laser-focused on trying to make a game better.
