2012 Top Moments

With the OUYA KickStarter coming to a close tonight, and their fundraising total close to $8 Million at this time of writing, the OUYA team decided to drop another bit of news, and this is a big one. In addition to Square Enix, Namco Bandai has thrown in their support of the OUYA. VP of Marketing at Namco Bandai, Carlson Choi, elaborates,

“NAMCO BANDAI Games and OUYA are currently in active discussions to bring some of the world’s biggest gaming properties to the exciting new open gaming platform. NAMCO BANDAI brings with it a rich history of iconic gaming franchises, from classics like PAC-MAN and GALAGA, to seminal franchises like TEKKEN and Ridge Racer, and we’re excited to explore how we can work with OUYA to bring some great titles to the forthcoming console.”

In addition to that, they’ve announced that the console will be able to support up to four controllers at the same time. For those who’ve already pledged $99 for an OUYA console, if you want three extra controllers to come with it, just donate another $90. The same applies to the limited edition of the console, where they said the extra controllers would match the one that comes with the limited edition. It was also revealed that in addition to XMBC, they would officially support Plex as another media player option, because everybody loves choice.

I know not everyone is interested in the OUYA, but I’m very excited for the system. Especially now that it’s gotten support from some key players like OnLive, Square Enix, and Namco Bandai. Besides, more competition in the console industry can only lead to good things.
