Project V, an MMORPG developed by Playworks, is preparing to make its debut in what is probably the largest MMO market in the world: Korea. The game seems to have garnered a great deal of interest from both potential players and publishers alike. Three different publishing companies from North America and Europe have already expressed interest in the game, though their names are currently being kept under wraps. Additionally, the South Korean content service company NHN has reportedly invested more than $2.5 million in the game’s development so far.

The game, which is crafted using the Havok Vision Engine, is based around a race war of sorts. But it’s no ordinary race war. (Well, I guess in today’s market, it could be a little ordinary). This race war is between werewolves and vampires. In Project V, the werewolves are the “underdog” race, being forced to live in an underground civilization, which has developed similarly to human civilization. Werewolves can wield weapons and also have a certain level of magic ability with which they fight the vampires. Additionally, besides the inherent ability of characters to transform into humanoid wolves, stronger ones will be able to transform into were-bears.

On the other side of the Project V spectrum, vampires are living lives of wealth and abundance, and in their humanoid forms they specialize in black magic and curses. However, instead of transforming into bats, these vampires transform into vampiric jaguars, with the stronger characters transforming into reapers.

Characters who reach the level cap will be able to opt for “hell mode,” where their characters become significantly stronger, and are capable of wearing special equipment. However, hell mode comes with a price: once their character dies, it’s permanent. Playworks is looking into eventually giving characters the ability to reincarnate, though.

Potentially NSFW.

About Joey Williamson

Joey is a summer 2012 graduate of the Studio Art program at Florida State University, where he focused in illustration and sculpture. He's currently employed part-time at Toys"R"Us, sitting on that job to buff up his resume while applying for other jobs more relevant to his degree. Things that you might catch him doing on his time off include frequent trips to the movie theater, throwing down some new sketches for project ideas that will never see the light of day, or crying about having to go to work the next day. To break the lull of his tears, he likes to watch anime and try out new games, particularly MMOs. He's a huge Sailor Moon fanboy, but also gives a 10 out of 10 to shows like Arakawa Under the Bridge, Katanagatari, and Kids on the Slope.
