SPECULATION: New Square Enix Teaser; Final Fantasy VI headed to iOS?

Square Enix Japan has posted a new countdown site which features a sprite of what appears to be a Behemoth from Final Fantasy VI as well as four unknown characters. It is anybody’s guess as to who these characters are, but if I were laying bets I would say Final Fantasy VI is heading to iOS right along with V.

If you think you know who the characters are, please post it in the comments below. Maybe one of our readers out there can guess the outcome before the countdown ends. The countdown ends on January 17th so we will have to wait and see just what they have in store for us this time.

With duplicate party sprites like that, I’m inclined to believe that’s referring to FFV, where you could have multiple of the same class of character. The middle two look like Thieves, while the outer two seem to look more like Warriors maybe? Not entirely sure. At the least, they look like FF1 Thief and FF1 Warrior.

Yeah, the current site now has additional sprites listed, including a Black-mage type sprite. I’m sticking with FFV. Wasn’t that teased in the FFIV release trailer?

I agree with FFV. I think they’re releasing all of the Final Fantasies in order, and last was FFIV.

Those are definitely closer to the classic job sprites than anything from VI ever looked like. In the above image it’s fighter, thief, theif, fighter, while in sqex’s own image, its black mage, fighter, knight, thief, fighter, thief, unknown, and fighter. Dunno why they’ve got eight sprites with so many repeats, but by this point honestly I don’t really care WHAT they do.

If they end up adding a timer, I’ll be boycotting SE products until they apologize for their abuse of countdowns.

  Unknown= Mystic Knight, Bartz’s version. Recent observation also suggests that all those fighters are actually called “Knight”, but that means I have no idea what the “knight” was. This definitely seems like FFV, though.

While the character sprites do look like 5, that is most definitely the behemoth model from 6. I don’t know what that means, maybe both are being released? Maybe it’s just 5 and the art designer for the website just grabbed the coolest looking silhouette-able monster he could, even if it’s from the wrong game.
