Episode 03: Momi Momi Memories

Welcome back to more Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash!

This week we run through the second half of Story Mode’s Hanzō Arc. Last time we learned that Ikaruga didn’t want to graduate and leave her friends behind. While understandable, her inability to communicate this causes a rift between her and Katsuragi. As things continue to escalate, help from another world appears in the form of… Kagura & Naraku?

While patching things up is important, we also still need to do our best to win the P-1 Grand Prix. The other teams though aren’t just going to let us splash our way to victory though. It’s going to take a lot of dodging, spraying, and many many minigun rounds before we can make it to the final boss. Something that apparently even a Galatic Hero can’t contend with.

Additional Thoughts and Notes

Well, that was one for the books. I’m still amazed how well I did during this. Though I’m sure many of you PBS veterans were wincing at times. ^^;

Like I said, gameplaywise I’m pretty happy with the difficulty balance. I apologize if it did get a little repetitive with using the minigun all the time, but that’s my style. Stand back and soak the enemy from a distance with superior waterpower. Also, the Momi Momi Machine while kinda fun, still could have been a bit better I think. But to each their own, right?

In regards to storyline, I did like it overall. However, I just hope they pay off all this build up regarding Katsuragi and Ikaruga graduating. These girls deserve that kind of development and you could tell some awesome stories I think. Will it happen? Only time will tell.

I think the Hanzo Arc was the weakest of the bunch in my opinion. Ikaruga being a bit overly emotional and unreasonable was strange to see. All the girls crying over basically nothing made me wish that there were some male characters to restore sanity. I think they needed some conflict and the Hanzo team is so balanced that other than Hibari being incompetent there isn’t much there, so they had to manufacture some. As for the wish bit – I think the girls realise that they can’t really wish for anything and it has to be grounded in reality.

I can kinda agree there. For me it’s a toss up between Hanzou and Gessen for different reasons (I go into a bit more detail once we clear the Gessen Arc).

I’m happy that Ayame got some screen-time here at least, but they really missed an opportunity to do something with her. Maybe next game.

    • Mr0303

Gessen’s Arc wasn’t all that either, but Shiki’s struggle was more meaningful – it was a choice between personal career and friends, which is somewhat relatable. Ikaruga was just sad that she has to graduate, which is a simple consequence of getting older.

I actually liked Ayame’s pervy training with Katsuragi. Kat trained her to be the resident perv after her departure and it was both hilarious and touching. Hikage’s comment about Ayame being a Katsuragi cosplayer was brutal though.

Also Benny – some advice. Edit your deck before every battle – you can get better skill cards, level up the ones you have as well as the character and weapon you are using. Weapon and skill card upgrades are universal for all characters, so enhancing those is a good strategy. I myself ended up playing with the same built throughout the story only changing the characters. I personally liked using the assault rifle since it is the most balanced weapon plus it enhances your jetpack jumps. The minigun is the best support weapon in the game, but the friendly AI is a bit dumb, which may leave you in a vulnerable position – it takes a lot of time to reload, which could be an issue when you are facing more than 1 opponent.

    • Benny E Carrillo

Yeah…. I’m kinda a moron and originally decided I wasn’t going to edit my deck until I got through story mode while still playing on normal. You can imagine how well that self-imposed challenge goes >_>.

I’ve recorded up to the end of the four school arcs so far (haven’t started the P-1 Climax Arc yet, so no spoilers for that please ^^) and have been grinding for cards to upgrade the weapons and do some deck editing. I’ll be sure to show that off once we hit that point.

    • Mr0303

It could be done, but the challenge could get a bit much in a couple of missions, plus it is nice to try out different cards and see what works best for you. The P-1 Arc is a bit more challenging, so I’d advise upgrading some stuff before trying that one.

If you are grinding for cards I can recommend a good and easy place to do so. In the Paradise episodes you can replay the last mission from Ayame’s Business on 3-star difficulty. It’s pretty easy and you get a guaranteed UR pet card. There are only so many pets, so it’s an easy way to stack on cards.
