The Nindies Summer Showcase 2017 has just aired, showcasing 20 games that will launch on Nintendo Switch for the rest of the year and into 2018. With Damon Baker presiding the proceedings, here’s every metric-ton announcement you need to know from today’s broadcast.
The broadcast started with a meaty, bloody bang with the first trailer for Super Meat Boy Forever. Launching in 2018, it features the familiar insta-death platforming along with daily challenges and updated controls. This time, Dr. Fetus has captured not Meat Boy’s girlfriend Bandage Girl, but their child Nugget. Forever has its roots as a never-released mobile spin-off of the original game from PC and Xbox 360. Developer Team Meat also confirmed the original Super Meat Boy will likely hit the Switch in 2017.
Shovel Knight‘s long-awaited King Knight expansion, King of Cards, offers a new quest with 30 kingly levels, plenty of armor upgrades, and digital card battles. It launches in early 2018, bringing the long journey of Shovel Knight development to a close (the base game launched in 2014).
KEMCO is bringing Mom Hid My Game to the Switch, an object finder that’s based on exactly what the title describes, with exclusive levels for the Switch. It will also be coming to 3DS, sans the unique levels.
Golf Story launches in September as an exclusive, a role-player with golf clubs as your weapon of choice. In the spirit of an RPG, there is a “dramatic story”, upgrades, and in-game mini-golf to break up the question.
The rhythm action of Floor Kids is premiering this holiday on Switch first. Playing as hand-drawn hip hopping preteens, you’ll have many locations to discover to recruit other dancers, with both single- and multiplayer modes. Development on Floor Kids comes from jonjon (on the artwork) and MERJI, with a soundtrack from Kid Koala.
From Fully Illustrated and Darkwind Media, Wulverblade is a beat em up in the spirit of classic arcade games. In the style of its genre, there will be 2-player co-op thanks to the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers. It launches first on the Switch this September.
Poly Bridge is a physics-based puzzle game where you build bridges and delight in watching them fall apart. It’s a Switch exclusive that launches this holiday.
Cardboard Computer’s Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition is an adventure game which echoes the TV drama Twin Peaks but set in Kentucky. It launches on PC and consoles, including Switch, in early 2018 with all five acts included.
The exploratory side-scrolling shooter Earth Atlantis, first announced in May, was shown once again today, now with a fall release window.
The debut game from Digital Continue, Next-Up Hero is coming to the Switch in early 2018. It’s a community driven online actioner, including local co-op play. When one hero falls in battle, another can revive it as an AI companion (players of Zombi U will be familiar with its similar conceit of one hero falling and another taking their place).
After its announcement this past February, Image & Form Games’ Steamworld Dig 2 finally has a release date, launching on Nintendo Switch on September 21st.
An action-adventure game inspired by the Tarahumara culture, Mulaka lets you transform into animals to battle other mythical creatures. You’ll wield the power of the gods in early 2018.
Elephants can do all sorts of things in Yono and the Celestial Elephants. The adventure launches very soon October 21st.
Inti Creates’ new game Dragon: Marked for Death is a 16-bit inspired action RPG with 30 quests and four classes to pick from. It launches this winter, be it this year or early 2018.
Adult Swim Games is bringing Battle Chef Brigade to Switch this holiday. It combines Match-three puzzles and combo-based action in one package where you’ll hunt monsters to cook.
Cosmoscope’s Morphies Law is bringing 4v4 online shooter multiplayer exclusively to Switch. Think Destiny with a Day of the Dead aesthetic. As a colorful monster, you’ll steal mass from other enemies’ body parts and grow into a giant. As you lose limbs, you’ll shrink down and become harder to hit. It launches this winter.
Sausage Sports Club is a sports arena game with animals as its mascots. Their floppy head can be additionally controlled via Joy-Con motion controls. It brings its many game modes and arenas to the Switch this fall.
Light Fingers acts as a virtual board game for up to four players with an emphasis on loot and stats. It launches on Switch first in early 2018.
The blast em up Nine Parchments will feature local or online co op. It resembles a dungeon crawler crossed with twin-stick shooter (think Diablo) and launches on Switch this holiday.
The final game reveal in the presentation came from Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture, marking the return of No More Heroes with Travis Strikes Again. It’s being developed with the industry standard Unreal Engine 4, and promises collaborations with prominent indie developers, such as Hotline Miami, It launches in 2018 as another Switch exclusive. The existance of a new game with Travis Touchdown was announced back in January as Suda51 stumped translators while on-stage.
Following the Direct, it was also confirmed that both Oxenfree and Worms W.M.D. will be coming to Switch. The Worms follow-up has no date, but the adventure of Oxenfree will be launching in North America and Europe this October. Stay tuned for more developments as PAX West kicks off this week.
