Little King's Story

If you didn’t get to play Little King’s Story after its initial Wii launch, you missed out on a hidden gem in the Wii library. I did get the game at that time and very much enjoyed it. It’s a very charming little game, but there is more to it than just its cheery facade. You play as a young boy named Corobo, who’s fortunes have just changed completely. But not all is at it seems in his world, though. You’ll have to beat the game to see what that means.

More recently, they ported the game to PC on Steam and launched it there late last year. It also had a PlayStation Vita sequel called New Little King’s Story. XSEED and Marvelous have now announced that Little King’s Story is getting a Groundhog’s Day Special on Steam. The special deal is also available on the Humble Store. During this event you can grab the game for $14.99 (40% off). This Groundhog’s Day Special lasts one week, ending on February 9th.

“Once upon a time, in a small, unremarkable village, there was a timid little boy who didn’t have any friends. One day, while playing alone in his bedroom, he was rudely interrupted by a family of dirty rats. Chasing them out of his room, the little boy suddenly found himself lost in a vast, mysterious forest, where he happened upon a magical crown that imbued him with the power to command. The little boy — with his newfound companions Liam, Verde, and Howser the Bull Knight at his side — has (rather surprisingly) become the leader of the small, down-on-its-luck kingdom of Alpoko.”

Little King’s Story was originally created on a custom engine built from the ground up for this game (and of course for its original target platform: the Wii). As a result, they needed someone who knew a lot about porting games to help give Little King’s Story new life on the PC. Peter ThomanĀ (known as Durante in gaming circles) stepped up to the challenge. You can read about this and the challenges he faced in his guest post on the Localization Blog. Lastly, here’s the game trailer for your viewing pleasure:

About Michael Fontanini

Michael is a veteran gamer in my early 30s, who grew up around video games, with fond memories of the oldies like the NES and SNES. He loves Nintendo but also plays a lot of games on his PC. Michael also enjoys going for walks or bike rides, and loves animals.

Michael is also a computer programmer. This started with a toy he got as a kid called PreComputer 1000 that was made by V-Tech. It had a simple programming mode which is what started him down the road of being a programmer! Michael can program in BASIC, Visual Basic, C++, C#, and is familiar with Java and Lua Script.

Putting programming and gaming together, Michael became a hobbyist game developer which may give him some good insights on game development! Most recently, he has been playing with the free version of the Unity engine (a powerful and easy-to-use game engine).

I love Nintendo but I also play a lot of game's on PC, many of which are on steam. My favorite Nintendo game's include Zelda, Metroid, and Smash Bros to name a few. On PC I love the Half-Life games, as well as most all of the Source Engine games just to name a few.

  • Klagmar

This was one of my favorite Wii games, but I heard the PC port was awful. Does anyone know if they’ve fixed it?

    • I didn’t hear anyone complain about it and it has positive rating on steam. It is still getting patches so if their was any issue it should be fixed.

they have hired Durante for that so it’s been “fixed” a few days ago, but the engine it runs on prevents more “refined” fixing, it was basically intended as a one off thing for the wii without really taking portability in mind so the recent update did everything it’s possible to fix it on PC

  • Great deal.
