NieR Automata

Square Enix has announced that the follow up to their cult classic NieR, NieR: Automata will coming to PC via Steam in early 2017. NieR: Automata tells the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 as they struggle to reclaim their world.  Here is a bit about the story straight from the press release:

Story of NieR: Automata
Invaders from another world attack without warning, unleashing their secret weapon: the machines. In the face of this insurmountable threat, the human race is driven from the earth and takes refuge on the moon.

The humans develop an army of android soldiers to fight back against the mechanical horde, but succeed only in slowing its advance. To break the deadlock, a new breed of android infantry is sent into the fray: the YoRHa squad.

In the forsaken wasteland below, the war between the machines and the androids rages on. A war that is soon to unveil the long-forgotten truth of this world…

I am glad PC users will be able to get their hands on this fantastic looking title as well. Keep it right here for more news and updates!

About Steve Baltimore

Steve started with oprainfall not long after the campaign moved from the IGN forums to Facebook. Ever since, he has been fighting to give all non-mainstream RPGs a fair voice. As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.

Oh good, this is great news for PC players! If it sells well maybe they will get the original Nier as well. Also, this opens up the game for mods. No bitching about the translation when they do their own!

This does make me think about the future relevancy of home consoles though. If everything is getting ported to PC why not just get the best version? Other than a handful of titles I am starting to question my PS4 purchase.

    • Miqubi

I think the consoles are fine, there’s ease of use as one of their main selling points, besides all the people who prefer physical versions of games will stick to consoles.

  • Miqubi

I’m happy this is coming to Steam, I thought they’d port it later if ever.

Good, that means some of the inevitable “localization” damage can be undone on one version.
And of course, more people getting to play it is always a good thing

Square-Enix seems to include Nipponese language settings for their ports most of the time, so failing that you can always learn Nipponese.

    • darkgamer001

Ik that was a bit tongue in cheek, but yes, as someone going through the whole Nipponese learning thingy, it’s definitely worth the investment.
It goes without saying, that unless you’re willing to wait years to play the games currently announced, trying to play games meant for jp native speakers after a year or less of study is…..not recommended, to say the very least.
