Nintendo NX

In their most recent company earnings call, Paul Raines, the CEO of GameStop commented on how we can expect to play our games on the Nintendo NX.

Raines:

“I would say that the fact that there are rumors of that type just confirms for you that this is an important console for next year. It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we’re excited about that.”

Naturally, this is good for GameStop, seeing as how much of their business model is reliant on pre-owned physical games. While it’s not clear at this time whether the Nintendo NX will use cartridges or discs, Mike Mauler, GameStop’s EVP and President of GameStop International, spoke about the differences of each format.

Mauler:

“The only difference would be on the refurbishment and pre-owned side. And actually, cartridges are much simpler to refurbish and repackage. So there is somewhat a little bit of an advantage if it went in that direction on used.”

In either case, physical media is beneficial for game collectors who like to display their goods on their shelves. It’s nice to know that Nintendo is keeping it around in some way for the NX.

Physical games are a must when it comes to consoles.

I hope Nintendo learns from last gen and actually gives this thing a decently sized hard drive too, so we get the best of both worlds.

    • Dgnfly

Physical games are the only reason why consoles are still relevant if they kill that they basicly kill gaming on console cause then we could all just go PC.

  • Daymon

I have a feeling this console will be either great, or terrible. Normally I think there’s a lot of room for the middle, but here… I guess we’ll see. I wish they’d just release some damn information about it already.

At least there will be physical games. The day it becomes all digital is the day I’ll probably stop buying games. My collection stretches back nearly 30 years, and has merged with my partner’s. I might cry when the day comes that I can’t keep growing it.

  • Audie Bakerson

Well that at least makes it easier to buy NCL products when NoA is censoring everything.

  • Reggie@NOA

Regginator Here! First, sorry for the unorthodox approach. But NOA is on a social media mission to shed some light on the NX much the way we revealed it HA! The NX will use 50 gig Gamecards, like the handheld Nintendo DS and 3DS family of consoles. The 50gig Nintendo Gamecard is the same size as, let’s say, a a Nintendo 3DS Gamecard with a much larger storage capacity.

One more bombshell, Yes as many suspected the NX is a handheld that X crosses over to a dedicated home console… but now our dedicated home console. The “X” Xbox One ‘Scorpio.’ Here at Nintendo we are passionate and dominant in the handheld gaming arena and want to focus our efforts on such. Too, we recognize the passion and devotion our core audience has on the home console. By partnering with Microsoft we can focus on Triple A quality handheld games that mirror on an app channel to your Xbox One.

Thank you! Make your bodies ready and I’ll see you on other game sites where I’ll be posting this PSA.

Thank god. Though I’m ok with digital, I prefer physical.
