Sony Computer Entertainment yesterday released a video on their YouTube Channel that had Andrew House, the President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, revealing that they had entered into a partnership with the newly formed Kojima Productions in order to bring their first title to the PlayStation 4 as a console exclusive. While the video was light on specific details, an interview (which has since been taken down) with the EU PlayStation Community Manager, Pad Poet, did offer a few more bits of information. In particular the following:

  • The agreement was made on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 (Japan Time) and the announcement right afterwards.
  • Kojima Productions is not owned by Sony Computer Entertainment and an independent studio.
  • The title will eventually come to PC after being exclusive to the PlayStation 4 for an undisclosed amount of time.
  • There is no information on the release date, PlayStation VR, or PlayStation Vita support.
  • The title will have nothing to do with either the METAL GEAR series or Silent Hills as both those properties belong to Konami Digital Entertainment.

In regards to partnering with Hideo Kojima, Andrew House had the following to say:

“Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family.”

Hideo Kojima also had the following to say:

“I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years, I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise.”

While that’s all the information we have at the moment, what do you think dear readers? Does this announcement surprise you, or was this just the inevitable finally coming to fruition? Are you happy that Hideo Kojima is teaming up with PlayStation or would you have rather seen one of his projects also come to the Xbox One and Wii U? Please let us know and discuss among yourselves in the comments below, on Facebook, and on Twitter.
