Cropped screencap from Ghost Storie

Ghost Stories DVD release

Ghost Stories is a supernatural anime series by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex, that originally aired in 2000. However, the series will be getting aired again in Japan, starting on September 1, 2015 on Animax, a Japanese satellite network. The series is 20 episodes long, based on the Gakkou no Kaidan novel series by Toru Tsunemitsu.

This news is somewhat of a surprise, considering the series was something of a failure when it was first aired in Japan. This is the reason that the now-defunct ADV Films produced their infamous English gag dub of the series, changing the tone from serious horror into a comedic self-parody. After ADV Films went out of business, the series was taken up and re-released on DVD in 2014 by Discotek Media. The English dub was produced by Stephen Foster. This is not, however, the English dub that will be re-aired in Japan.

Ghost Stories follows a group of students hunting for ghosts within their school, after their resting place is disturbed by local construction workers. The series has characters designed by Masaya Onishi, and was directed by Noriyuki Abe.
