Toukiden: Kiwami - Trio | oprainfall

Koei Tecmo has posted a series of videos showcasing the new weapons being introduced in their forthcoming action RPG, Toukiden: Kiwami for PS4 and PS Vita. In the game, an enhanced update to Toukiden: The Age of Demons for PS Vita from June, 2013, three new characters join the Slayers in the fight against the demon hordes threatening to overrun the world and they’ve brought weapons that could very well tip the scales back in humanity’s favor. Take a look at the videos to see how to smite evil in new and interesting ways.

Soma’s Club

Soma looks to bring the pain with measured swings and powerful crushing blows. From the video preview, it seems like players won’t be able to button mash their way to victory as enemies could easily punish reckless gamers. Patience and position look to be the keys to Soma’s victory.

From the description in the official video:

Attack technique: Crush
A heavy weapon with a broad attack range and major destructive power. Attack moves take advantage of the length and heft of the weapon. Striking with the tip of the club results in a Power Strike, which inflicts more damage. String together a sequence of Power Strikes and you will enter a “Hyperpowered State,” during which your attack speed is increased and your charge times are shortened. The weight of the club means that fast movements are impossible, but effective use of the “Stop-Thrust,” in which you block an enemy’s attack and force it back against them, will allow you to stand your ground and face the Oni head-on.

Special technique: Devastator
A triple attack in which each of the three consecutive attacks can be charged up to three levels. Each charge level is maintained during the attack, so that the overall attack can be charged up to a maximum of nine levels. When the attack strikes an Oni it deals massive damage, but it takes a long time to charge the attack to its maximum level, meaning that judicious analysis of the battle situation is necessary to use this attack effectively.

Reki’s Naginata

Reki’s move set emphasizes speed and spacing, as well as air superiority. Her agility and recovery times make her an attractive choice for entry-level players or those that just want to rush down their enemies. With the range on her weapon, gamers should be able to put damage on the demons from a good distance. It also looks like she will transition smoothly to her air game.

From the description in the official video:

Attack technique: Slash
A weapon type whose greatest strengths are attack range and speed. Using a naginata will allow a Slayer to unleash an array of attacks in a smooth, fluid motion. By continually landing attacks on the enemy without taking any damage yourself, you will enter a “Hyperskilled State” in which your attacks will inflict damage on multiple body parts at once. Slayers using the naginata can also deflect enemy attacks, allowing them to avoid taking damage with only the slightest of movements, once you learn to read the enemy’s actions. The weapon’s power is not great, but skillful use of the “Parry” technique will allow you to maintain an unbroken sequence of attacks, inflicting damage every bit as significant as other weapons.

Special technique: Frenzy
A high-speed series of attacks. When executed while in a “Hyperskilled State,” your attack speed will also increase. A Frenzy that targets as many body parts as possible will inflict the most damage.

Horo’s Rifle

Even though Horo is using a rifle and can deal damage from great distances, her techniques look like anything but easy mode. Long recovery and reloading times look well-balanced with her mobility and the range needed to be effective.  Horo looks like a very unconventional character when compared with the more straightforward hack and slash methods of Soma and Reki, and this difference brings extra value and variety to the character roster.

From the description in the official video:

Attack technique: Thrust
A weapon designed for long-ranged attacks. Aiming the rifle allows you to see the “miasmal nodes,” or weak points, of the Oni, and striking these nodes will inflict additional damage. A variety of different bullet types can be loaded, each of which inflicts differing amounts of damage over differing areas. Additionally, you can lob grenades at the Oni, and by shooting them inflict a variety of different effects, depending on the bullet type. Once you master this skill, the range of attacks available to you will increase dramatically, opening up all sorts of strategic possibilities.

Special technique: Spirit Sniper
An extremely powerful bullet infused with the strength of your soul. Depending on the bullet type, the strengthened elements will differ, meaning that wise selection of bullet type is essential.

Toukiden: Kiwami is scheduled for release on PS4 and PS Vita in Europe on March 27th, 2015 and in North America on March 31, 2015. The game will be released both in retail outlets and digitally on PSN. To learn more, visit the official site.
