MechRunner | Tank
Oh, how destructive.

Indie studio Spark Plug Games announced today that their mech free runner MechRunner will be making its way to PlayStation 4 and Vita. MechRunner‘s story follows “a rogue scientist and his niece who build a 40-foot tall mode-changing mech in order to fight back against an invading robotic army fueled by a mysterious alien power source.” The player is put in the shoes of female protagonist Allison, who pilots the 40-foot-tall mech as she battles the O.S.O. military force. For a free runner, it packs quite the story!

Now, that’s what I call a mech!

MechRunner is a free runner at its core, but with an action-packed twist, sort of like the gameplay featured in the Sin and Punishment games. Anyway, MechRunner‘s mech can transform on-the-fly into a tank that offers a different style of gameplay. Your mech form focuses on melee attack and light guns, while tank mode deals heavy damage with an assortment of explosives. As you progress, upgrades and more powerful weapons will be unlocked, giving the game a light RPG mechanic.

Something really interesting and unique to this free runner is its procedurally generated levels. This is sure to add longevity to MechRunner and keep things interesting with each revisit to the game. And since it is a free runner, I could see this feature plus the light RPG mechanic combining to form one heck of an addicting experience.

This customized mech is sure to bring the pain.

MechRunner’s content-loaded, action-packed free-running gameplay is sure to make it a title worth getting when it’s released this summer for PlayStation 4 and Vita. And for all the lucky people who were able to visit E3 2014, an early glimpse of the game was available to experience in Sony’s booth, says Spark Plug Games vice-president Ben Lichius. Will any of you be picking up this unique free-running romp? Let us know your opinion and what system you’d get MechRunner for in the comments!
