Shinji and His SDAT Player | Neon Genesis Evangelion

Have you ever watched Evangelion and wished you had your very own SDAT audio player like Shinji Ikari? Japanese fans are going to get just that! Sony has updated the available information, and we now know the Evangelion-brand Walkman music players will be available starting April 24th. There are three different models to choose from, and the price varies depending on which model is purchased. These audio players have FLAC, HE-ACC, MP3, MWA, L-PCM and AAC format support and will of course work with Sony Music Unlimited. For those of you interested, they are being sold here.

Sony Walkman F Series—Evangelion Model

Available Models

NW-F887/EVA1

  • ¥43,000
  • This version features one of three Rebuild of Evangelion soundtrack albums installed

NW-F887/EVA3

  • ¥51,000
  • All three albums are installed

NW-F887/EVA3 With Special Earphone

  • ¥87,000
  • The Hi-Res Audio-compatible inner ear receiver XBA-H3 is also included

I spent most of my time with the series complaining about Shinji being a bit too whiny (though I’ll admit that’s an SFW version of my thoughts) to pay too much attention to his audio player. However, after looking closely at it, I can see why fans of the series would like to get their hands on something like this!

Kind of wish they had actual moving tape parts in it, like the Anime… I was so mesmerized by cassette parts 😛
