Berserk: The Golden Age Arc | Band of the Hawk

Fans of the latest Berserk movies will be excited to hear that the first two of the three entries of Berserk: The Golden Age Arc are currently available for streaming on Hulu. Both Berserk: The Golden Age Arc: The Egg of the King and Berserk: The Golden Age Arc 2:  The Battle for Doldrey are available in both English subtitled and dubbed formats. They will be available until April 13th through Viz’s Neon Alley service. The third movie in the series, Berserk: Golden Age Arc III: The Descent, will become available for streaming on April 15th.

For those unfamiliar with the films, they are an adaption of the Golden Age Saga of Kentaro Miura’s dark fantasy manga Berserk. The arc also received a 25 episode anime adaption back in 1997. The movies chronicle the meeting of Guts and Griffith and the rise of the Band of the Hawk. If you’re a fan of action and dark fantasy and you haven’t checked out Berserk yet, you probably should. And here’s an excellent opportunity for fans and newcomers to check out the latest movies.  But be sure to do so before April 13th, so that you can see the most recent movie when it goes up on the 15th.

Do you need to know the manga or anime or are these movies a stand alone set off films

These movies are an adaption of the anime and the first part of the manga, so no prior knowledge is required. C:

Thanks that what I wanted to hear

That made me realise I still have to watch the last 8 episodes of the series.

I’m a big fan of Berserk and have all of the manga and even the US-released Dreamcast game “Guts Rage”. I love the majority of the Golden Age Arc but haven’t been so impressed by the series after the final events of it. All good things must come to an end.

The new line of movies are decent and provide a mechanism to continue the series. That said, they lack the magic of the old OLM anime series, which got me into the series in the first place. It had better voice acting (from many of the same cast), better writing, and better music. The new movies tell the same story, but are far more condensed and are about style over substance with the new 3D animation.

Will be interesting to see how they handle the last part of the Golden Age Arc. It’s pretty graphic and violent, so viewers beware.
