There is a mini sale on two Mega Man titles on the Nintendo eShop for both the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Fans can pick up Mega Man X on the Wii U Virtual Console, and Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge on the 3DS Virtual Console for a fraction of the usual price.
Mega Man X was originally released on the Super Nintendo in 1993, and is simply fantastic. The game takes place about 100 years after the original Mega Man series timeline. Mega Man’s creator, Dr. Light, began developing a new type of robot whom he called Mega Man X (oftentimes referred to as just “X”). After feeling that the world was not yet ready for a robot as advanced as X, he sealed him away for many years. Eventually, Dr. Cain finds the abandoned capsule, and awakens X. More robots were later developed to replicate X’s design. These robots would be called the Reploids. Some of these Reploids eventually become corrupt and start attacking humans and other Reploids. Throughout the series, these robots are called Mavericks. X is part of an organization known as the Maverick Hunters who set out to stop these violent Reploids led by Sigma, a former Maverick Hunter himself. I could go into further detail about the plot, but that would spoil not only this game, but also the sequels. The game improved upon and expanded on the formula set up by the games in the classic series. The levels are bigger, and have many hidden power-ups inside of them for the player to track down. This game is often considered to be one of the best games of the 16-bit era. I highly recommend it if you do not already own it.
Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge is a spin-off of the classic series originally released on the Gameboy in 1991. This game uses bosses from both Mega Man and Mega Man 2. What is interesting about this game is that you start off with only four robot masters, as opposed to eight (or six in the original game). Despite the fact that these bosses are reused, the levels are completely different. This is one of the shorter Mega Man games out there, but is really challenging. Those of you looking for a nice old school challenge, give this one a shot.
Both of these games cost only $2.00 each for a limited time. If you have a few extra dollars on your Nintendo accounts, give them a try. Both games are well worth checking out, especially if you are new to the series. They are only on sale until December 18, so get them while you can.
