Marth has just been confirmed as a returning character for the latest instalment in the Smash Bros. series!

Super Smash Bros. (Wii U/3DS) | Marth

I’m sure many of you will be pleased and relieved to hear this. As there’s no accompanying trailer, we don’t yet know if his moveset will remain the same, although he does look slightly manlier, just a little.

This is good news for Marth fans, who, like me, may have been concerned that he would be replaced by the Masked Marth seen in Fire Emblem: Awakening. Perhaps his Awakening doppelgänger will turn up as an alternate costume for the hero of the first game in the series? I certainly hope so!

Ten screenshots were released alongside this announcement—one for the 3DS, and the rest for the Wii U. Check them out below!

Smash Bros. (3DS) | Marth

We at oprainfall are crazy about Smash Bros., which is why we’ve started up our Smashing Saturdays series to keep you all up to date with what’s been announced each week! I myself am a crazy Fire Emblem fan; I even did an article talking about early games in the series, back when Awakening was released in North America.

How many of you are looking forward to the new Smash Bros.? Let us know why or why not in the comments below!

I just want SSB4 to have a competitive/technical nature behind it instead of being herp derpy.

    • Forbsz

Agreed it’s seeming very herpy derpty doo at the moment hope it improves and has a more competitive nature!

    • Pedro Rosas

Just by looking at the Sonic video you can tell it has the combo mechanics from Melee

    • Forbsz

      Melee was my favorite 🙂

    • TwinTails

You’ve been looking at screenshots the whole time, many of them that Sakurai made that way. How can you tell?

    • Forbsz

The stuff he has said and the inclusion of wii fit trainer and villager means they’re making it more easy and more appealing to filthy casuals!

  • handsomejack47

    THANK YOU BASED SAKURAI

  • multibottler0cket

I hope his sword is as long as it was in Melee! I would be so depressed if Marth weren’t in this. He’s my go to guy!

  • Franke Sisto

Awesome! Good way to start the day!

  • James Best

I’m excited! Glad to see Marth’s back. He’s one of my favorite characters. I hope there’s an alternate skin for Lucina a la the Wii Fit Trainer

  • I was expecting Princess Zelda as the next SSB character. Former announcements were related to game releases : Olimar (Pikmin 3), Toon Link (The Wind Waker HD) and Sonic (Sonic Lost World). So I was expecting Princess Zelda because of “A link Between Worlds”.

But it is Marth and not Princess Zelda which was announced. It is nice to see such kicker in the next SSB. Marth is a little bit slow but its kick are rather devastating. Will Ike return to SSB too?

However things remained the same. Nintendo is still expected to announce him for the next SSB. Perhaps at the beginning of 2014, who knows ?

    • Charlotte Buckingham

Who’s expecting Nintendo to announce Ike? Most people I’ve heard are expecting Chrom, which I think is far more likely. The guy from the first game, and the guy from the latest game – in this case, Chrom.

    • ???

I’m expecting Nintendo to announce Shulk after the next X trailer. I predict the next X trailer will be shown toward the end of December, or early February.

    • This is the guy I am expecting too.

    • Pedro Rosas

nah I’m expecting Zelda’s announcement when A Link Between Worlds releases

    • I know that Chrom is more expected than Ike. Ike was a good character in SSB Brawl and I would be glad to see it in the next SSB.

I am not dealing with Ike at all in the last paragraph. The one I was thinking to is likely the most expected on this website, if you see what I mean. 😉

  • Sir Franku

You know, i’ve been thinking that a Fire Emblem needs its own fighting game. Srsly. With the cast of Awakening allone, they could pull it off…. *spaces out and imagines the Vaike vs Chrom

    • Kyle Emch

That would be really sweet! I mean, if Persona can have a fighting game spin-off, why not Fire Emblem?

  • Ari

That’s the best news I’ve heard all day!

  • Christian Dennis

so if marth is here then who’s going to show alongside him to make up team emblem? will it be the avatar allowing you to connect awakening to it and this be the “custom character” people keep talking about or will it be chrom if it be chrom then it’ll be a paradox as awakening takes place years ahead of monshou no nazo

  • Christian Dennis

if marth is showing up then who will show up alongside him and make up team emblem. will it be “myunit” and be the custom character everybody keeps talking about? or will it be chrom it’ll be nice if they can bring back roy
