Shantae: Risky's Revenge | Dancer Shantae

With ten days left to go, WayForward’s Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has finally reached past its initial funding goal on Kickstarter with well over $400,000 (USD). In celebration of their recent success, the development staff promises to post several more stretch goals for the upcoming Shantae title and posted a short and amusing video for everyone to watch:

Upon reaching 90% of its funding goal, WayForward announced in an update on Kickstarter that the full iOS version of the DSiWare classic Shantae: Risky’s Revenge would be free to download for a limited time from the iTunes App Store. According to the update, this is a gift to all the fans who supported them and is still free as of this writing.

*** Free for a limited time! ***

Metacritic’s highest rated handheld game of 2010, and winner of IGN’s Nintendo DS Game of the Year 2010!

About Shantae: Risky’s Revenge
Prepare for a powder keg of high octane, hair-whipping, belly dancing, monster slaying action; now available on iOS! Guide “half-genie” Shantae through haunted wastes, burning deserts, enchanted forests, and cavernous labyrinths. Discover magical attacks, brew zombie coffee, save golden babies, and shake Shantae’s hips to transform into more powerful creatures. Use all of your powers to foil the lady pirate Risky Boots and rescue Sequin Land from certain doom!

Features:
-Use your hair to whip monsters and solve puzzles
-Belly dance to become a Monkey, Elephant, or Mermaid
-Battle epic bosses and upgrade your powers
-3 save slots for multiple players
-Includes thousands of frames of animation
-Flirtatious storyline and humorous characters
-Retina display and Game Center support
-A quest so big it’s bursting at the seams!

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge also includes the alluring new Dancer Shantae costume, which not only looks pleasing to the eyes, but is also fun to play with. Dancer Shantae has double the magic power, which may come in handy for anybody who likes to speed through their games—but only half her original defense. Furthermore, WayForward has updated the game to version 1.0.5, which addresses some technical issues that made the game unplayable in the beginning. You will see a welcome screen after the WayForward logo, followed by a Kickstarter ad to lead you straight to Half-Genie Hero‘s page.

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge for iOS is playable on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The game is iPhone 5-optimized and requires iOS 5.1 or later. So if you have an iOS device and want a $4.99 game free, now is a good time to try it out. Plus, who doesn’t like free stuff?

As the remaining days go by, we will be sure to bring you more updates on Shantae: Half-Genie Hero‘s Kickstarter status. And be sure to tune in to our impressions on Giant Robot’s Game Night with WayForward, which will be coming soon.

Why not put it on the 3DS for free since, ya know, the game came out on the fricken’ DS?

    • AceRuby

That’s exactly what I said as well 🙁

    • Tara

I feel the same way, but I guess it’s probably in part because it’s hard to make something “free” on the eShop unless you are Nintendo. :/ Much as I don’t like Apple, they do let you pretty much do whatever with the prices.

    • Thomas Johnson

Unless I’m mistaken, publisher’s on the eShop have complete control of their own pricing. That was one of the changes Nintendo made to their policy from WiiWare to eShop.

    • Tara

Hm. Didn’t know that. However it may take a slight bit more time to change the price, then. I dunno. :/

  • James Fox

    People, Don’t stop
Please keep the pledges coming – You’ve neglected this kickstarter for Mighty No. 9 for too long and with 10 days left you must repent

PLEASE, donate every red cent ya got to make sure ALL the stretch goals are fulfilled

    • Tara

I might not have a ton of money right now, but I’ve supported both from the day they were announced. I believe both will become fantastic games. :3

  • And so your lives are safe. For now.

  • Johnson Cameron

Im glad to see it go Multiplatform. I only wish more games can do that for now, as this could be a new way to have new releases on consoles when there are new games coming out for a few months.

  • James Best

Kind of wish there was this kind of deal for Shantae on the 3DS. I don’t have an iOS platform, so I guess no Risky’s Revenge for me.
