Famitsu recently reported that SEGA will be bringing a remastered Ecco the Dolphin to the 3DS to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Mega Drive, the console that the game was released on. Titled 3D Ecco the Dolphin, this port of the game will include the usual 3D visuals that come with 3D classics as well as quick saves and something called “Super Dolphin Mode”, a mode designed for newcomers that lets them become invincible as they try to solve the game’s various puzzles. In addition, this version of the game will have a “Classic Mode”, which is meant to replicate the kind of visuals from CRT displays from the international versions.

3D Ecco the Dolphin will be available on the 3DS eShop on June 26th in Japan. No international release dates have been announced at this time.

“A Mega Drive classic reborn! 3D Ecco the Dolphin coming June 26”

The Mega Drive classic Ecco the Dolphin is being reborn on the 3DS! For Sega’s 3D Remastering Project, the Nintendo 3DS is getting the new downloadable title 3D Ecco the Dolphin, announced to come on June 26th through digital distribution.

3D Ecco the Dolphin is an action adventure game where, as a dolphin, you adventure in the open sea in the middle of the world. In order to figure out the riddle of the tornado that swept away his friends, Ecco must explore seas of ice, ruins at the bottom of the ocean and the seas of long ago. The original version was first sold in 1993 on the Mega Drive, but this version lets you interact with 3D visuals, and has quick saves as well as Super Dolphin Mode, an invincibility feature that lets novices solve the stages’ riddles. It also lets players play through the game easily. In addition, the overseas version’s edited visuals for display on CRT televisions have been reproduced in “Classic Mode” as well, and these improvements are fully loaded to make this a much more enjoyable game. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Mega Drive’s sale date, 3D Ecco the Dolphin has been announced!
