Torrance, Calif., (May 6, 2013) – Marvelous USA, Inc. today announced its formation as the U.S.-based publishing operation of leading Japanese publisher MarvelousAQL Inc. Formerly known as XSEED JKS, Inc., Marvelous USA will oversee all the company’s U.S. operations, including XSEED Games as the consumer games brand for PC, console and handheld games, and Marvelous Online as the brand for mobile and online social games. Marvelous USA will be headed by President and CEO Shinichi Suzuki, who held the same titles for XSEED Games.

Based in Torrance, Calif., Marvelous USA is comprised of the XSEED Games team. In addition to managing overall North American publishing operations, the Marvelous USA team will also continue directly managing the XSEED Games brand for all current and planned XSEED Games titles, with no change for consumers. Marvelous Online, based in Irvine, Calif., will expand its XSEED mobile and online games business with the acquisition of the ATLUS Online Division, purchased earlier this year from Index Digital Media, Inc. The combined operations for Marvelous USA incorporate approximately 40 staff between the two offices.

“Marvelous USA unifies our US operations under the global Marvelous brand while giving our customers topnotch products and support for both traditional and online social and mobile games,” said Shinichi Suzuki, President and CEO of Marvelous USA. “Our XSEED Games console and PC brand will continue to offer the quality games and service for which it is known, and Marvelous Online gives us expanded reach into mobile and online social gaming markets.”

All publishing aspects for XSEED Games titles will continue to be managed by Ken Berry, who has been with XSEED since before it was incorporated in 2004. He will manage the selection of games to be published, overseeing all localization, production, and sales and marketing activities to bring new titles to market. Marvelous Online will be overseen by Tatsuya Nishioka in his role as Senior Director of the division. Both Berry and Nishioka will report directly to Suzuki.

NOTE: To quell any of the confusion, while the press release states they will be renamed, they will not change their branding. PR at XSEED has come out and clarified that even with the recent acquirement and formation, they will still be publishing titles as “XSEED Games” like usual. So while technically they’re called Marvelous USA — like Atlus, who are officially Index — they still have the brand name XSEED. Check out their new and improved website.

  • I wonder if this increases our chances of getting the other Trails in the Sky games?

    • Failcom

It’s not XSeed. It’s Falcom not giving two shits about any region but Japan. XSeed has repeatedly attempted to get their developers to work on the localization but they won’t give them the time of day.

Falcom is really pissing me off. Why don’t they localize their games on PC and put them on Steam?

  • CaptShiro

dout it sounds like a more mobile market move so unless they re-release it on IOS/Android and test the waters for it I don’t think we’ll see anything further from it atleast just in the near future

Makes a whole lot of no sense. Marvelous AQL was previously consolidating all of their brands, now they are creating new brands. Seems to me to be a way of eventually merging XSEED into the Marvelous AQL brand. But since most people don’t know that brand as well as XSEED, they are being tactful about it.

Whatever you do, Marvelous AQL, don’t mess up XSEED!
