The teaser site for Namco Bandai’s upcoming Toriko: Gourmet ga Battle has just gone online. There’s not much on the website yet, and what little info is there is limited to those who can read Japanese. However, we do know that the game will be for four players and will include characters Coco, Sunny, Zebra, and Toriko from the series. This will be the Toriko franchise’s second game for the 3DS system.
As you might have guessed by the game’s title, the Toriko universe is one that revolves heavily around food. The series takes place in a world where everyone takes the quality of their food very, very seriously. So seriously that they are willing to hire people like Toriko to hunt down rare and top-notch ingredients with which to make the ultimate dish. The game will make this a central part of the gameplay and will even include a calorie gauge that can be filled by finding and eating food along the way.
The Toriko manga (by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro) began serialization in Shonen Jump in 2008 and now spans 23 volumes of manga, which are released by Viz in the US. The series also boasts an anime adaptation that has been licensed by Funimation and can be streamed on their website.
