Shin Megami Tensei if

Before there was Persona, Shin Megami Tensei fans were playing Shin Megami Tensei If… The game was originally released on the Super Famicom in 1994 and is a side story to the previous two games in the series. It is now available on iTunes in Japan.

The game takes place inside a school that has been thrown into the demon world. The player can pick their gender at the beginning of the game and instead of choosing an alignment, the player can choose one of four classmates whom he or she wants to befriend. This will alter the course of the game and even change the ending a bit. Another cool aspect of Shin Megami Tensei If… is the way the game decides your character’s beginning stats. When you begin the game, you will be asked a series of questions and the game will decide your characters stats based on your answers. Like Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2, this game was remade for the PS1 in Japan and is now available on iOS devices.

Shin Megami Tensei If…costs 1,200 yen or about $13 on iTunes. This game has never been released outside of Japan and it does not seem like it will be localized anytime soon.

  • it’s a damn shame. this game looks really interesting and I myself have always wanted to play it.

    • There’s a fan translation in the works for the PSX rerelease of If… that’s 90% finished, iirc.

  • come on Atlus, release it on da Vita or 3DS an’ show us some love.
