XSEED has yet to confirm a western release date for its Playstation Vita title, Ragnarok Odyssey, but a version of the title available in Hong Kong on August 16 will feature English text. Importers should know, however, that this release will differ from the planned North American release. Several  DLC packs, for example, will be available for download, unlike the Hong Kong version, which includes these packs. Regardless, all DLC that’s currently free in Japan will be free in North America. It is also possible to import save data from the Japanese version of the game into this version.

Ragnarok Odyssey is developed by Game Arts, who developed the Grandia and Lunar series of games. Odyssey follows in the footsteps of other monster slaying, world exploring titles such as Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star Online. It’s possible to switch between six classes – Sword Warrior, Hunter, Hammersmith, Assassin, Mage, and Cleric – at your character’s home, and there are also options to customize appearance and equipment. Most importantly for a game of this type, online 4 player multiplayer is available. An additional twist to the standard monster hunting formula is that it’s possible to launch your enemies into the air in a chain of combos. You can also slam your opponents back into the ground to cause damage to any enemy in the immediate vicinity. RO seems to take a faster approach to its combat than its contemporaries.

RO has sold well in Japan since its February release and has actually given gamers a reason to buy a Vita.

About Scott MacDonald

I joined Oprainfall in August 2012 as a writer and reporter. After I proved myself, I became Review Manager and handled all reviews for the site. I then branched out and took over all PR duties for Oprainfall. Now I keep us in touch with publishers, obtain codes for official reviews, schedule interviews, and tackle other assorted PR responsibilities. I'll play anything, but I view new releases with a cynical eye.

  • Hopefully this will be a return to form for GameArts. They have made some classics in the past.

  • According to the Canadian amazon, RO will be released on the 21st of August (which hasn’t been reliable in the past, of course). Also, the final comment was a bit snide – especially considering the Vita already has one of the most unique titles on nearly any platform in the last few years -> Gravity Rush. And the clincher, is that it’s actually a great game.

  • I think this game will be great I am waiting on Xseed’s North American release on this one cause they brought it to me so I should support them. I think the Vita will get better and better as time goes on I mean the 3DS has been out a lot longer and there aren’t that many more titles for it than the Vita has already.

You’re nothing but a dumb f**king piece of s**t with equally s**tty taste=FACT. You’re a stupid little bitchass faggot that does nothing but spout inane bulls**t=FACT. I know for a fact only dumbass f**ktards like urself would ever spout the s**t u do. A stupid f*g like u isnt even worthy of playing amazing games. FACT is that despite RO being another great reason, gamers that aren’t ignorant pieces of shit such as yourself already have PLENTY of amazing reasons to buy a Vita, which is factually the greatest handheld system EVER made. Gravity Rush is a total masterpiece, and BB+Wipeout+NGSP+R:BS+U:GA and shit ton of other games also range from great to amazing and beat the shit out of anything on other handhelds. Lastly, connections with friends, PSP/PSOne game support, and its amazing multimedia capabilities(Videos, Music, Netflix, Youtube, etc.) are all FAR MORE than enough reasons to buy=FACt, dumb fuck. These are facts that I can’t expect an ignorant shit such as yourself to comprehend. Go f**k your slutty-ass b***h mother, contract her MANY stds, and die you pathetic piece of s**t; do us ALL a favor. -__-

After this message is sent, I will be permanently abandoning both this site and this account, so whatever messages you send as a reply will never reach me. This is the first+last contact we’ll ever have, so deal with it. there’s no point in messaging me back or reporting me as it’ll be useless. But you’ll do it anyway, because that’s what dumb f**ks like yourself do. -__-

P.S. Tell that dumb b***h you call ‘mother’ that my friends and I want the $$$ back for those mediocre blowjobs she gave us the other night. -___- Deal with it, you and your inane bullshit have lost, I an the Greatest handheld ever(Vita) and it’s factual flawlessness have won. Another FACT for your dumb bitch ass.

I like your self-censorship. You missed one at the end though. By the way, you’re wrong, the Atari Lynx was the greatest handheld ever. Also you wrote some of the same insults on that playstation site you went to.

    • If Operation Rainfall had a ‘Biggest Troll Award,’ you sir would win the lifetime medal.

    • RyanOPR

Not sure how to reply to that other than to say perhaps it is time for you to step away from video games for a while, if you’re that worked up about something somebody said about your favorite handheld. All things in moderation man.

    • Thanks for dropping by Lee, you’re a credit to gamers everywhere.
