After much rumor and speculation around the internet that Wii U could possibly see a name change at this year’s E3 conference, Nintendo of America has confirmed that “Wii U” is not a prototype name and will be the final production name of the console when it hits retail later this year.

Nintendo of America has also set up an official Facebook page for the console that includes a welcome message from NOA President & COO, Reggie Fils-Aime. You can visit the official Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/WiiU

  • Seems like Nintendo is going all out with social media this time.

    •  Now if they’d just re-institute their enthusiast forums…

    • Seriously. I miss them

  • Eugene Ng

So they’re sticking to the title, the Wii U, Hmmm… What is going to be the official price for the new console?

  • The name of Wii U isn’t so bad.  Maybe for the people that didn’t buy a
Wii based on the name alone, they would hate that Nintendo is sticking
with the Wii moniker and simply putting a letter on the end, but if the
name mattered so much, I wouldn’t buy a “play station” since it sounds
like something the kiddies frolic on while waiting for the dentist, and an “x-box” sounds like what someone might name their porn-stash.

  • Personally I don’t care what the name is. I just want good games.

  • but i wanted it to be named Super Wii 🙁 or SWii
