On May 19th, the Paul Gale Network shared a rumor regarding the WiiU game that Retro studios has been working on. This game, dubbed “Star Fox – Metroid: Fusion Saga”, would cross over two of Nintendo’s highly regarded franchises.

The game begins as the Starfox team explores a Meteos-like stage that eventually leads to them crashing into Samus’ ship. The stories of Fox McCloud and Samus Aran would intertwine while players experience both aerial and on-foot gameplay as both characters.

While playing as the Fox, the gameplay focuses mostly on the space battles the series is known for. Expect plenty of on-rails shooting and witty banter between members of the Starfox team. Eventually, Fox would explore the land on foot as he did in Starfox Adventures.

Samus’ gameplay is said to be in mostly first person. She would be completely isolated, stripped of her armor upon arrival, and she must traverse the planet to get it back.  While trying to get it back, she must fight bosses and repair her ship.  Eventually, Samus would fly her ship and gameplay would be similar to the Starfox games.

This game is meant to effectively blend the most beloved gameplay elements of both franchises. The game is said to be epic in size, scope, and ambition!

PGN has leaked games and information before. They were the first site to leak “Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale” . This time, they were only given enough information to confirm that this was at least an idea pitched to Nintendo, if nothing else.

With E3 just around the corner, what will become of this rumored Starfox / Metroid crossover?
