As some of you reading this will know, the staff members of Operation Rainfall are big fans of JRPG’s and quirky niche titles. However, we also enjoy some mainstream games, such as Gears of War, Assassin’s Creed and even Call of Duty *cough*. So when it came to voting on what we thought were the Top 10 PlayStation (PS1) games, of all time, you would think the list would offer up a lot of diversity considering the wealth of different genres the PSone provided, wouldn’t you? Well, think again. This Top 10 lists proves that we are nothing but a bunch of narrow-minded-JRPG-whores, and we love ourselves for it!

Every single game of this Top 10 can fit under the genre of JRPG (some of them I’ve never even played or heard of *cough*); but which ones made it and which ones didn’t? Read on as we present to you Operation Rainfall’s Top 10 PlayStation Games.

I’m sorry, but you didn’t make it.

Being a Top 10 list means that there were games that just missed out. Here are some that got pipped at the post:

  • Parasite Eve
  • Resident Evil
  • Valkyrie Profile
  • Legend of Mana
  • Suikoden II

ON WITH THE SHOW:

10. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete

The remake of the SEGA CD game, Lunar: Eternal Blue, starts off our Top 10. Released on the PlayStation in 1999, it was loved for its character development, notable soundtrack and the rich dialogue that pretty much every character possessed.

9. The Legend of Dragoon

Despite The Legend of Dragoon receiving mixed reviews upon its initial release, it has developed a huge following with many a petition asking for a remake or a sequel, and it’s not hard to see why. Whilst it may have had its problems, it actually tried to do something new with the whole turn-based battle system that was popular between JRPG’s of the time. Sure, it had its issues, but imagine what could be done with it with today’s generation of consoles. Operation Rainfall is proud to include The Legend of Dragoon in our Top 10. It truly deserves the recognition.

8. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete

Like its sequel, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete is a remake of the SEGA CD game. And also like its sequel, it has a wondrous story, exceptional music, and beautifully done CGI and hand-drawn cut scenes. Definitely a cult favourite. So much so that it was remade again for the PlayStation Portable under the name Lunar: Silver Star Harmony.

David Rawlings
David Rawlings, or ‘Rawky’ as we like to call him, joined the Operation Rainfall Campaign at the beginning. He’s British and found solace with us as he was able to understand our pain about Nintendo and their localizing faux pas. He’s a big fan of the letter ‘U’ and refuses to remove them from words, even though we constantly ask him to. He also believes it’s about time Princess Daisy got kidnapped.
