It’s BACK!!!
After a seven month (or so) hiatus, Scattered Showers has returned.
For those not in the know, Scattered Showers takes a look at the more fun, quirky, informative and creative side of video games. Whether it be fan art, recreations of our favourite music, or anything that’s just downright bizarre- we will have it covered. The internet is truly a beautiful thing, with many hidden gems.
This week, we’re looking at some of the most fantastical and creative fan videos on the net. Some of these you may have seen before, some of these you may have not – but either way they’re all AWESOME!
Next Gen Smash Bros: 300%
Coming from the YouTube user pwnisher, this fantastical recreation parody of Smash Bros. is truly impressive. It features live actors playing Captain Falcon, Link, Ness and Snake duking it out in a very faithful-looking version of the Battlefield stage from the game. It’s insanely over-the-top, rib-tickling funny (especially Snake choking Link) and will astound you from their level of creativity, effort and expertise.
Dead Island Backwards Trailer – Live Action
This shot-for-shot remake of the famous debut trailer of Dead Island is spectacular. The original trailer aired to high praise for its cinematic and emotional direction, not the mention its hauntingly beautiful music. Also, the fact that they found an actor that looks exactly like the CG male character from the original trailer is pretty darn impressive. To compare the two videos you can watch the official trailer here.
Mega64: Flower (2010)
Mega64 have been around for quite a few years now and they have never stopped taking your favourite video games and recreating them in real life. The problem is that their recreations involve innocent and puzzled members of the public. Showing no shame, the three main stars of Mega64 will go to any lengths in making passersby feel awkward, confused or- in some cases- violent.
Their recreation of the PS3’s indie hit, Flower, may not be their most famous – but it’s equally as funny as all their others. The painful looking face-plants make this one definitely worth watching.
Paperboy: The Movie (Trailer)
A fairly dark parody of an otherwise lighthearted retro video game. This fan trailer of Paperboy: The Movie gives a glimpse into the background of how the main character fell into the world of delivering papers. With its tongue firmly in its cheek, the gritty trailer provides many a laugh – a favourite being his dying father wiping blood, tenderly, over the boy’s grieving face – and offers up some humorous lines of dialogue: “Being a Paperboy is like being a man, only you are a boy.”
Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 – Evacuate!
There are a lot of audio music videos on the world of the Internet. Most of them aren’t all that, to be honest. They largely consist of someone grabbing a trailer or video footage, adding a soundtrack and thinking it’s a work of art, when really it’s a pile of steaming bull crap. But every so often one comes along that kinda works, just like this video featuring the opening cinematics to Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. At first, when you realise that the accompanying music is by the Germen Eurodance pop group CASCADA, you may feel inclined to immediately stop watching. But you shouldn’t, because in the oddest way possible, it works. The beat edits are timed perfectly and the lyrics to the song fit the video amazingly well. Everything about it is great, even if you are screaming “But I shouldn’t be liking this!” in your head.
Dead Fantasy 02
Of course, we can’t have an article like this without mentioning the work and sheer genius of Monty Oum. The 3D computer animator stunned the gaming world with his own fan videos of well-known names in video games getting into a spot of fisticuffs with each other.
His most notable and by far most popular series is Dead Fantasy. It’s a collection of videos combining the heroines and vixens of the Final Fantasy and Dead or Alive games knocking ten shades out of each other in the most over-the-top, ridiculous and magnificent ways possible. Monty Oum has created five episodes, so far, with the latter ones even introducing some of the male heroes from the aforementioned games. And whilst each one is excellent in their own right, it’s really episode 2 that blows everything else out of the water. In my opinion anyway.
Now it’s your turn. There are hundreds of awesome fan videos out there- which ones are your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
