Atlus’ future seems to be up in the air, as this month has saw the famed Japanese video game developer’s parent company being placed on the auction floor. However, the director of the Persona franchise, Katsura Hashino, has shown signs that his series doesn’t share the same uncertain fate.
In celebration for the upcoming Persona Music Fes, Hashino dropped a massive hint about “unannounced titles” in a blog post today, and how they are seemingly in development. He also does take time to apologize for the recent circumstances brought forth when Index Corporation found itself filing for bankruptcy.
In the blog post, Hashino promised that next year there will be many announcements as part of Atlus’ 25th anniversary celebration. He also explained that these unannounced titles that they are working on are “under zealous development”. The Persona team is definitely hard at work, but faces many problems, one which probably includes the unknown fate of Atlus itself. However, Hashino assured fans that he and his team have made sure that their focus would not be broken.
Hashino knows that the videogame industry is changing, but he believes that the Persona series has a great future in this evolving market, one that will be both fun and stimulating.
For now, we will just have to wait and see where the Persona series is going to go next; but with the series’ director showing such confidence, the franchise’s future looks to be promising. Although Atlus’ fate is undetermined, the development of a Persona 5 was already hinted at, when Index Corporation registered the Persona5.jp domain. If Atlus’ recent troubles have effected this transaction by Index Corporation is unknown at the moment.
