During the special Direct for Super Smash Bros., a handful of returning characters were announced, along with a brand new one. However, what was interesting is that the returning characters now play slightly differently to how they did before, with some pretty interesting surprises.
So, who made it into the roster?
Zero Suit Samus
Zero Suit Samus is now a completely separate character from Samus. You no longer have to access the blond-haired bounty hunter through her Final Smash. Not only is she now her own independent lady, but she’s also been improved in many ways. She is now stronger, more agile, and comes equipped with rocket boots. Handy.
Sheik
Just like Zero Suit Samus, Sheik is also a separate character, no longer tied to Zelda. She has also been given a boost in terms of speed, strength, and new moves—including mini-bombs. Nice. But what about Zelda’s Down Special move? Well, it seems she can now summon a magical knight from out of her undercarriage…
Yoshi
Finally, the mean, green dinosaur is back. (Some of us were getting worried.) Yoshi has also been given some improvements. One of them is that he now stands more upright than he did before, which is nice.
Charizard
It appears the fire-wielding Pokémon is going it alone this time, without the likes of Squirtle and Ivysaur to back him up&mdsah;certainly a curveball from Sakurai. Do you like this new direction for the old-school Pokémon?
Greninja
Now comes the newcomer, Greninja. The evolved version of Froakie makes its debut in Super Smash Bros. and looks to be a beast when it comes to speed and evasive attacks—definitely a surprising addition to the roster. And if Jigglypuff returns, it will give the Pokémon franchise a total of five representatives so far.
