This morning in the Land of the Rising Sun (Japan), Level 5 held their “Level 5 Vision 2013” event. As you could probably tell by the name, everything Level 5 was discussed and showcased – including new game announcements. However, the game many a gamer was looking forward to hearing about was a possible new entry into the Professor Layton series. I hate to spoil the surprise, but we got just that. This new dose of Professor Layton goodness is aptly titled Layton 7 for iOS, Android, and 3DS.
Layton 7 can almost be looked at as a spin-off, but not in a bad way. On this new puzzle-filled adventure, players will shockingly not be the code cracking, puzzle solving extraordinaire Professor Layton. In his stead, you’ll fill the shoes of a collection of “bystanders” — a taxi driver, a little kid and a dog, just to name a few — in a fictionalized London, as per usual. One of the other various changes — pointed out by the screenshot below — is the isometric camera angle used in Layton 7. This new perspective allows players to see their current character walk the streets and offers a whole new “feel” to the usual formula.
A release date and localization for Layton 7 currently haven’t been announced, but Level 5 stated that more details will becoming soon. How do you all feel about these changes? Will these changes spice up the series? Go forth and discuss in the comments!
