Namco Bandai has shared some more details on the battle system in their upcoming Weekly Shonen Jump crossover fighting game, J-stars Victory Vs. The screenshot above shows us what the HUD (heads-up display) looks like during gameplay. Basically, the meters on the top are the players’ win gauge, while the gauge below Luffy, is the player’s life and stamina meter. Every time you defeat a character, your win gauge increases. Characters are immediately revived after being defeated until one of the players fills up their win gauge completely, thus winning the round.
Characters have four different types of attacks. Allow Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach to demonstrate:
Normal Attacks – Basic attacks; they come out fast and do not deplete your stamina.
Power Attacks – Strong strikes that have the potential to break your opponent’s guard. These attacks use your stamina.
Ranged Attacks – Long range attacks that can deal a decent amount of damage, however the opponent can side-step if they are fast enough. These also use up stamina.
Special Attacks – GETSUGA TENSHOU! (Character specific attacks.)
The characters will be designed for different play styles. For example, Goku and Ichigo are characters who are very agile, and can fight in the air, while Luffy and Toriko are all about strength. Naruto and Kenshin are designed for people who like to take on multiple opponents at the same time.
J-stars Victory Vs. is in development for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. There has been no word on a release date. What kind of characters do you think Gintoki, Ryotaro, Yuusuke, and Gon will be?
