Hikaru Utada Return for Kingdom Hearts III

Hikaru Utada, singer and song writer of the Kingdom Hearts series theme songs, “Simple and Clean” / “Hikari” and “Sanctuary” / “Passion”, has been strangely absent since Kingdom Hearts II. The New York City-born Japanese singer had become unanimous with the franchise since her contribution in the original Kingdom Hearts title, and many wondered why there was a sudden divide between her and Square Enix.

Now however, her absence from the series will become a thing of the past, as Utada looks to be taking part in the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts III. Revealed by her father Teruzane on Twitter, he confirmed that his daughter Hikaru Utada will be making a contribution in the creation of the theme song for the newest Kingdom Hearts title.

While this news will probably bring about a celebration from long time Kingdom Hearts fans, we still don’t have much information about the extent of Utada’s contribution or the details of her new theme song.  Hopefully, it will be a short wait to finally hear the creation she has had brewing after her long absence.

Update: It seems that Utada Teruzane may have been confused by the question of his daughter’s involvement with Square Enix. In a new Twitter post(this time in English), he clarified that he and his daughter are still undecided when it came to being involved with Kingdom Hearts III. So Hikaru Utada isn’t contributing with making a new theme song for Kingdom Hearts series, but there may be a chance that she will decide to help with the new title in the future. We will keep notice of the situation, as more details come in.
