As revealed by Famitsu, the mysterious Galapagos RPG by Compile Heart is called Fairy Fencer F for PlayStation 3. This game is developed by Neptune Team, and is supposed to be made to tailor specifically to Japanese audiences. It also brings together Final Fantasy art and musical contributors, Nobuo Uematsu and Yoshitaka Amano. The game’s teaser website can be viewed by clicking here.
Now that we can see the art, the characters look nothing like Amano’s work, as they have been designed by Date A Live‘s Tsunako. Amano has done the conceptual art for the game, and the dragon-like geography in the background appears to be his doing. The story in Fairy Fencer F takes place in a world where wicked gods quarrel with one another — when all of a sudden, they disappear. Fast forward to a modern era, where “Fencers” wield the “Furies”, the same weapons held by the quarreling gods. A boy named Fang becomes a Fencer upon rescuing a girl named Tiara, who is also a Fencer.
This is the list of characters, including their voice actors, below:
- Fang (voiced by Ryota Oosaka) – The main character who accidentally became a Fencer.
- Tiara (voiced by Kaori Ishihara) – A young girl with Gothic clothing and silver hair. In order to undo a goddess’s seal, she is collecting Furies.
- Alyn (voiced by Rumi Ookubo) – She has shoulder length hair and wears a super short skirt. She’s another heroine, the saint that dwells within Fang’s Fury.
- Harler – There is another female character with black hair, but her details are unknown.
The game is described as bearing similarities with Hyper Dimension Neptunia by sharing the same kinds of monsters, but with some improved visuals. Fairy Fencer F will incorporate a battle system where you use combo attacks and magic, as well as gain weapon points to strengthen your Fury. This is all the information revealed about the game for now, but more news should develop in the future.
On a final note, Fairy Fencer F‘s creators have expressed interest in developing games for PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 4. Game development boss Norihisa Kochiwa says as games for PS4 are under development, he wants to enter the market to make it “firm.” He explains what makes the system feel different is not so much the hardware specs, but the “dimension of how you play.”
