It just goes to show that just because something seems unlikely doesn’t mean it is impossible. Proof of that is the news from Famitsu that Drakengard 3 is in production for the PlayStation 3. Access Games is developing the sequel, and Square Enix will be publishing.
This will be the first entry in the action RPG series created by defunct developer Cavia, the same developer behind Nier, since 2005 and 2006’s Drakengard 2. (Cavia was disbanded in 2010 and absorbed into AQ Interactive, now Marvelous AQL.) First details of the game reveal that it will center around two sisters, Zero and One. Zero and One are Utautai, people who channel magic through song. Apparently, Zero, the older sister and main character, has a prosthetic arm, wields a sword, performs magical attacks by singing, and grows stronger when spattered in blood. Sounds lovely.
No information has been provided regarding when it is slated for release or whether or not it will feature soul pacts with dragons and other creatures as did the first two games. Regardless, for fans of the original and players just looking for a compelling new RPG, Drakengard 3 looks to be one to watch.
