During Sony’s All Access: Greatness Awaits PlayStation 4 launch event, Hideo Kojima graciously stopped by to drop a brand-new trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. This wasn’t just any trailer, however, as Kojima noted it has now been 15 years since players first saw Snake enter Shadow Moses Island in Metal Gear Solid. To celebrate, it has been revealed that Sony consoles will get an exclusive “Déjà Vu” mission featuring Snake just as he looked back in 1998, blocky polygon model, low-resolution textures, and all. This is more than cosmetic, though, as homages to events on Shadow Moses are also shown.
Beyond the big reveal, we got to see several more gameplay sequences and previews of the game’s minimalist interface in a few different environments. Of course, in traditional Metal Gear Solid fashion, there promises to be very explosive cutscenes. Check out the trailer below to get a preview of what’s in store.
Ground Zeroes is the first half of Metal Gear Solid V. The other half goes by the name The Phantom Pain and is scheduled for release some time after Ground Zeroes. Both games have been confirmed for release on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, though whether any of these consoles outside the PS4 will get this DLC remains to be seen. [According to the official Ground Zeroes website’s “Special” section, “Déjà Vu” is a “Sony-exclusive mission on PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4.”—Ed.]
