Bravely Default: Flying Fairy | City

Bravely Default

The Nintendo Direct today quickly gained momentum in the last few minutes. Bill Trinen said he was about to announce “games that players in Japan have been enjoying, and we know you’ve been interested in since they were first announced overseas.” This series of very pleasant surprises was kicked off by Bravely Default: Flying Fairy.

At every turn, we at Operation Rainfall have been fervently hoping to see this game announced. It was made by Silicon Studios, the same development team as Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (which we lovingly reviewed in Games of the Past). Bravely Default can be considered another victory for us all.

Trinen was right to describe this game the way he did. Bravely Default sold at number one on its launch week, received great critical praise, and even won some gaming awards back in its native land. Oh, and did we mention how much we love it already? Anyone can see that it’s a visual and musical treat. Plus, the gameplay is a love letter to classic RPG’s while still bringing its own unique style. It’s really enough to blow us all off our feet.

Nintendo is partnering with Square Enix to publish Bravely Default: Flying Fairy. North America will receive it some time in 2014, while Europe can actually expect it some time this year. We’re all eagerly awaiting it, even those of us (like me) who didn’t have it on our radar until this morning.

Are you ready for its release?
