Boot Hill Heroes is an indie RPG that mixes some Spaghetti Western chocolate with some tasty Earthbound peanut butter. I’ve been anxiously waiting for it, as I imagine several other people have been. The game was originally going to be released this month, but It seems that we’re going to have to wait a bit longer. The game’s release date has been delayed to sometime in early 2013.
You might be thinking something went wrong in development and now they have to spend a few months fixing everything. That’s thankfully not the case, as Dave Welch simply states in his blog post that they underestimated how long it would take to finish the game.
“There haven’t been any major hurtles or anything else slowing us down. Progress is being made every day. It’s exciting to wake up at the beginning of the day and think about working on this game, and it’s rewarding to look back at the end of the day and see how much progress was made. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough time.”
If you’re worried about the money they raised via KickStarter, you can breathe another sigh of relief. There’s still a good amount of money left for game development, with Dave promising that they haven’t spent it on food or rent.
“We’ve spent less than 10% of it so far. It took us some time before we had a supplemental art team in place that we are now paying regularly. The music is about 2/3 finished and paid for. It’s composed by Jake Kaufman whose recent credits include “Double Dragon Neon,” “Retro City Rampage,” and “BloodRayne: Betrayal.” The music for Boot Hill Heroes is spectacular. And it’s all thanks to our backers.”
I realize this news is a week old and that I’m a horrible person for not reporting on this earlier. You can read more information about Boot Hill Heroes’ progress here.
