Year of the Amazoness I Main Characters

Arc System Works has released the first trailer for Year of the Amazoness, the dungeon-crawling RPG on the Nintendo 3DS that has an all-female cast. Expanding upon our previous coverage, the trailer clarifies a lot of the gameplay elements and character descriptions with juicier tidbits. New characters were also revealed including their quirks, personalities, special attacks, and more.

Year of the Amazoness takes place in a distant prison-planet where a motley crew of fetishized anime tropes have to explore dungeons, battle enemies, and find a spaceship on which to escape after breaking out of jail.

You can watch the trailer below:

Year of the Amazoness is designed to be a first-person dungeon crawler with labyrinthine stages like in the Etrian Odyssey games, but with a science fiction theme. The in-game visuals and attack animations look very clean on the 3DS, especially the character models themselves, whose animations have a lot of activity going on.

The battle system appears to be turn-based and has a lot of eye-candy that demands the player’s attention. The camera angles are dynamic and the attack animations look incredibly stylized and very flashy, though some of them look silly and over the top. As impressive as the game looks, it has a lot of provocative material that will not only attract the usual suspects and critics, but leave its fate to be released overseas in question.

Year of the Amazoness I Maria Censor Flash

Year of the Amazoness on the Nintendo 3DS will be releasing in Japan on November 14th, 2013. Prior to its release, the game will be playable at Arc System Works’ game floor at the Tokyo Game Show, which will be starting September 19th. Those outside of Japan who are embittered about the region-locking on their 3DS’s will have to hope that Arc System Works will be interested in releasing Year of the Amazoness internationally.
