Sony dropped a bomb on the video game industry today with its announcement of the PlayStation Vita TV, but that wasn’t the only Vita-related news to come out of Japan this morning. A new, slimmer version of the handheld system was also announced.
This new Vita (model PCH-2000) looks as if it was made to appeal to a wider range of gamers. It’s lighter and thinner than the standard model (by 15% and 20% respectively) and boasts a battery life of six hours. It also comes in a variety of colors, including white, light blue, green, pink, khaki and black.
Other changes to the hardware include an LCD screen (replacing the original’s OLED screen) and a built-in 1 GB memory card.
The new model will go on sale in Japan on October 10th, retailing at ¥18,980 (roughly $190 USD and €143). There’s no announcement yet about a release date outside Japan.
