Seaman - oprainfall

While a bunch of silly sexual innuendos can be made at its expense, the original Dreamcast game Seaman did bring a source of intrigue to the pet simulator genre. An unusual title, it had players take care of a species of fish called “Seaman” in an artificially created habitat (with Leonard Simon Nimoy starring as narrator). The Seaman fish not only had a human face that brought about a eerily surreal experience, but it also was able to communicate with the player, telling them its hopes and dreams. Once thought dead, it looks like this franchise might not be stuck in obscurity for long. Not only has the title’s creator Yoot Saito hinted that he was working on a new Seaman title, but Nintendo has trademarked two brands that sound eerily like Seaman itself.

These two brands that Nintendo recently registered for trademark in Japan are Mysterious Pet: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face and Mysterious Partner: Legend of the Fish With A Human Face.

I can’t really think of any other possible outcomes these two trademarks will produce, outside of a new Seaman title. Can you think of any other franchise that has featured a fish with a human face? Could it be the third Seaman sequel (a second one came out for PlayStation 2 in Japan only), or possibly a new spiritual successor? We will just have to wait and see if this really means a new Seaman title is on the horizon.
