After the unveiling of the PlayStation 4 at Sony’s E3 Press conference, its support of used games without DRM, and non-required daily internet connection, Sony has announced extending the PlayStation Plus membership across all of its platforms. According to Jack Tretton, the Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, PlayStation Plus membership for PlayStation 3 and Vita will carry over to PlayStation 4. Existing PS Plus memberships on PS3 and Vita will also carry over to PS4.
To play online and earn free games requires a PS Plus membership, while single-player and other online services do not.
The PlayStation Plus membership will run at subscription rate of $49.99, which is the same cost as that of the PS3 and Vita. For now, PS Plus subscribers will receive a copy of the PS4 launch title DriveClub, by Evolution Studios, as one of the free titles from the Instant Game Collection. It will be a customized version that is exclusive to PS Plus members called DriveClub Plus. More free PS4 games will be available in the future, including titles like Klei Entertainment’s Don’t Starve, Red Barrels’ Outlast, and Switchblade Monkey’s Secret Ponchos — all of which are indie games that were announced at Sony’s E3 Conference.
The PlayStation 4 will cost $399, and will be releasing at this winter at the end of the year. You can pre-order now from Amazon.
