There are some really weird games, and then there is El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, a strange hack-and-slash that takes a page from the Devil May Cry series. Well known for its hilarious cinematics and a flabbergasting story line, the El Shaddai series is an example of how creative game developers in Japan can be. As of today, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron will find a new home as its developer, Ignition Entertainment, announced that it sold the series’ rights to a company called Crim.
This acquisition of the El Shaddai series allows the new development company with the “prequel, sequel, and all other derivative rights of the existing game,” all of which were developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Crim, which is run by the title’s original director Takeyasu Sawaki, announced that it “will work with the entertainment industry to develop a potential El Shaddai business moving forward.” In its first act after acquiring the IP Crim will be holding a celebration at the Asagaya Loft A in Tokyo on Aug. 12, running from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron puts you in the role of the biblical figure Enoch, who is on a quest to save the world from the great flood. With the power of holy armor and angelic blessings, you fight through demons and fallen angels in colorful, psychedelic worlds, until becoming the very embodiment of the voice of God, Metatron.
